The first Budapest Essentials festival, taking place between 27 May and 1 June, is the celebration of the Budapest of today and the improvements of the recent past. The aim of the event is to emphasize the city’s many positives, to put the usual locations into unusual contexts, and to make the “Budapest feeling” a common treasure - all this in the name of leisure, entertainment, recreation, culture, and gastronomy. The 4-day event is about local patriots, an international lineup of DJs and bands, a variety of social activities, and special gastro-discounts. Our location is the city, our stages are clubs, and our theatre set is Budapest.
Budapest Essentials - which can be characterized both as a community-building movement and as a party series - stands out with its diversity from among the usual city festivals as it creates a delicious Budapest-cocktail containing all the flavors of the city; including the Essentials-specific discounts of bars, restaurants, and cafés, the extensive array of cultural events and recreational activities, and other unique programs tailor-made for Budapest Essentials. The multifaceted collection of premium party spots is made up of the best venues of Budapestian nightlife. Some examples: Corvintető, the electro shrine, Toldi, the hipster-epicenter, Trafiq, the epitome of elegance, WNDRLND, the crazy artist, Fogasház, a ruin pub that bites, Aquarium, the definition of diversity, Ötkert, the great reinventor, and of course kolor with its unusual location.
The lineups of the 13 nightlife locations reflect the diversity of the venues with their wide selection of genres ranging from jazz to techno. The lineups include Gorillaz Sound System, George Ezra, Nabiha, Alex Metric, Kraak&Smaak, Duff Disco, Joyce Muniz, Jillionare, Dizzy Bell and DJ Yoda.
Organically sprawling urban arts are represented by homely nooks of fashion and design: Printa: the coffee-scented headquarters of eco-friendly design and screen printing, Bp Shop, providing stylish uniforms for local patriots since the dawn of time, and rododendron, the jewelry box of Hungarian fine arts and applied arts.
Urban culture, embedded deep into the fabric of Budapest, can be discovered thanks to the open office day of Budapestian startups, the unusual museum tours, Tip Top Bar’s theatre performances, the various city walks, the EuShorts Film Festival, and the WAMP design market. The Museum of Fine Arts, the Budapest Zoo, and several thermal baths have also joined the festival and can be visited for free with a festival ticket for 4 days.
Gastro-adventures are served on a silver platter by venues such as the alpha and omega of takeaway soups, LEVES., Macesz Huszár, the Jewish Quarter-based home of Hungarian-infused kosher cuisine, My Little Melbourne, a cozy studio of masterful baristas, the latest attraction of Liszt Ferenc Square, Circus, and the source of Budapest’s best and hottest burgers, W35.
The festival’s main sponsor is Heineken Hungária Zrt. which celebrated its 140th anniversary in 2013 together with Budapest, as the three parts (Óbuda, Buda, and Pest) of the Hungarian capital were unified in 1873 and MOL Bubi.
Ticket can be purchased in advance on the festival’s official website www.budapestessentials.com for 9900HUF, until 11th of MAY. Our location is the city, our stages are clubs and our decoration is Budapest.Live the city, love the city!
